Jessica Hair, M.Ed., NCC, LPC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. I earned a master of education in clinical mental health counseling from North Carolina State University in 2012 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2009. I also recently earned my certification as a clinical military counselor.

I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including an outpatient clinic, intensive in-home counseling, day treatments, and schools. While I have worked with a variety of ages, these settings have allowed me to specialize and develop a passion for working with children, adolescents, and families. I am skilled at helping children and families with a variety of concerns including oppositional behaviors, trouble focusing and completing tasks, improving family relationships, separation anxiety, trauma, and difficultly managing emotions. I also have experience helping children of military families address challenges unique to the military lifestyle such as deployments and moving. With that said, I enjoy working with individuals of all ages. I have experience addressing a variety of concerns that include depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship issues, stress, trauma, self-esteem and body image issues, grief, and life adjustment concerns.

I employ an eclectic approach to counseling and tailor the interventions I use to the unique needs of the individual. I value client centered therapy, as this form of therapy is based on creating a nonjudgmental and empathic environment that allows you, the client, to drive the pace and direction of therapy. I also use strategies from dialectical behavioral therapy including mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills. I also find art therapy helpful with self-expression, personal growth, and healing; I incorporate these techniques if you express interest. In my work with children, I frequently utilize play therapy techniques in order to help them process their feelings and learn important skills in a developmentally friendly way.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time in nature, hiking, traveling (especially to the mountains or the beach), cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.
